Domestic cats do this too. A long slow blink from a cat or purposely turning away from you is an early signal that “hey I trust you won’t hurt me while I lower my defenses”. Its also a good way to let a new kitty you just met you don’t pose a threat. Make a show of a long slow blink and then turn away. Let the cat decide if it wants to be your friend and it will come to you.
